What causes the wire rope to stretch

2025-01-14

When the steel wire rope is subjected to a tensile load, it will stretch at different stages, so the steel wire rope will often remind the user to pre-stretch the steel wire rope. In turn, many customers will ask why the wire rope stretches?

There are many influencing factors that will cause the steel wire rope to elongate during use. Some enterprise factor analysis results in extremely small elongation, which can usually be ignored. The main causes of problems that usually lead to wire rope elongation are as follows, of which the first two are the most important factors.

(a) The elongation due to adjustment of each strand of wire and the position of the wire rope within each strand - often called structural elongation.

(b) Elastic elongation due to load tension.

(c) Elongation or shortening due to temperature changes.

(d) The elongation caused by the increase in lay length due to the use of wire ropes that are free to rotate through one end.
